christmas day 2011 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gilfam

I am proposing to put an event cache on for say 11.30 on christmas day at the christmas tree in the middle of Bradford

The time is going to be very limited say 30 minutes and the requirements also, say you have to wear a piece of santa outfit

The event will end with a group photogragh round the tree

Cache perhaps will be asked to bring one present to the value of £1 to swap with other cachers

We may have a raffle for a charity or other good cause (perhaps this site?) suggestions please

I look forward to gauging your reactions to the idea

Cheers

Gilfam

Great to see everyone who turned out for this great little event. Lots of people had 'dressed up' for the occasion and the hot mulled wine provided by HxRoamers was very much appreciated.

Once again, a great idea and many thanks to Gilfam for organising it. Merry Christmas everyone!

Excellent idea, fun, themed event fully in the spirit of the season. We've not made any plans yet for Christmas so I think this may possibily sway us back to the plan of copying last Christmas with a huge full English Breakfast followed by an afternoon of walking/Geocaching with some light evening snacks later. We had a great Christmas last year doing this without the stress of having to visit relatives or cook a ridiculously large meal and then feeling fat and pogged for the rest of the day kipping infront of the TV so you can definately count us in.

P.S. do you know of any greasy spoons or breakfast places in Bradford that'll be open Christmas morning?

Fab idea. Will drive and let my hubby side seat drive whilst having a xmas drink! Girls might not be happy with being dragged away from their pressies but they can mess around with them on boxing day!!!!!!

Last 2 posts were spot on.
A stupid idea ?? ...well maybe, but only as below in my opinion, in fact I think as far as the hobby is concerned its a good and original idea

However as far as a stupid idea - 95% of the UK population more than likly think the whole idea of our hobby is a stupid idea and cannot see the point.

Most of my Aviation Enthusiast mates can't see the point, and I bet most of you cannot see the point of hangin around the end of runways waiting for that elusive airliner to come in and be photographed

Its what floats yer boat at the end of the day

BTW GILFAM the mince pies are on you

Yes! But also the most fun / bizzarre idea. It's times like this i wish i was more central yorkshire than the utmost northern point so i could justify popping out for a half hour event type cache rather than prepping lunch for the extended family and church meeting.
Can i attend in spirit and claim a smiley? My present would be a big virtual 'bearhug' to all on the forum!

Not stupid at all! We'll be there.

Normally find a cache on Christmas Day so this one sounds ideal to me.

Sheffield Council Rangers want volunteer(s) to place caches PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jamie Stevens

The GAGB has been contacted by Sheffield Council Ranger Service who are keen to have local cacher(s) place caches on their land but don't have the budget to do so themselves.
Quote:

I walked the whole round walk yesterday with a GPS and pinpointed all the existing Waymarks. There are lots of exposed rock faces, bridges, veteran trees with holes, etc which might be suitable. The best spots lie in the Porter Valley, Limb Valley, Ecclesall Woods, Ladies Spring Woods, Graves Park and the Gleadless Valley. If you want to pass on my contact details to anyone who might like to place a cache I would be happy to support them. The land is all council owned and I have permission from the woodlands and parks managers to run the project.

Anyone interested needs to contact The Wombles of the GAGB who will pass on your contact details.

Visit the thread on the GAGB Forum.

Hollingworth Lake Cache

I was passing close to Hollingworth Lake and so decided to go find this newly published cache in the hope of getting a first to find.

Hollingworth Lake   GC18B5P

Despite a long search I retired without a score.

But hang on a minute.....the cache wasn't there to be found.  No, it had been stolen just minutes after having been placed.

And we think we have problems in Yorkshire.   Read on...
