I'm sure that this one will have been debated before, in other forums but, I don't recall us having gone over the topic.

TB's and GC's that go missing after you've dropped 'em in to a cache... how responsible do you feel when they are logged as AWOL by the next finder?

I really do feel quite terrible when this happens. I know that most of the time, the missing travellers show up after a while but, whilst they're in limbo, I can't help but think that the owner will be rueing the day that I got my hands on their bug.

Is it just me or, does this crisis of conscience affect anyone else?

i feel REALLY guilty when its happened so far they have all turned up again although one of mine has gone missing DOH!

however i did actually manage to lose one in South Africa and tried everything to try and find it i felt SO guilty rang hire company and everything luckily (or unluckily as the case may be) it had only recently been released and i emailed the owner with profuse apologies and an offer to purchase a new one and release over here in the uk. he kindly refused the offer but i felt awful about it!

I really hate it when that happens..
I know of a couple of cases when the coins have never been seen again..
I may not be the best at logging TB's/Coins straight away but I am sure I have never lost one or caused it to dissapear.

Agree. Usually put them on my watch list until they are picked up...and then breath a sigh of relief or not as they case may be!

It happened to me last summer i set up a TB hotel behind a caravan site in Anglesey , on a path that you would only walk if going for the cache as the path is blocked by a large fallen tree a couple of metres further on and has been so for as many years as i remember.

I dropped Cabs Bench geocoin in and the next finder remarked that it wasn't there , you would not find this cache by accident as it is very well concealed and most people use the hint to get it. Its had 19 trackables through it but only the 1 go missing, ive searched around GZ just in case it fell out when the next visitor opened the box but no luck,

I reluctantly marked it as missing back in October and it still remains that way.

Personally i have 3 TB's all missing and for in excess of 9 months !

It's heartwarming to hear that I'm not alone.

I'm also with you Ian, on feeling partly responsible for travellers that are placed in my caches. Crazy but, the idea of "cause and effect" usually niggles me when TB's appear to have gone AWOL. Thankfully whilst I've had a few scares, I think that there's only one coin that has not resurfaced yet.

Of the TBs/Coins that I've sent out into the world, I believe that three (out of fifteen) have been lost. The first TB I ever put out went missing after just a few weeks - I've since sent out a copy which is just starting to move around. The other two hardly got off the starting blocks either and, are listed as being in caches that have subsequently been reported as muggled. That said, as a bit of a niggle, after many months of waiting, it would be nice if the cache owners would consider doing some maintenance.

I have 3 trackables that have been in my bag for a little while longer than i would have liked (mainly due to visiting alot of micros recently and not having bag with me on a couple of suitable caches) i've sent all 3 owners an email reassuring them that they are safe and will move as soon as i find a decent cache.

I'm in the same club as you, but still they come in inappropriate locations

We've had a coin go missing too, a lovely Yorkshire Geocoin.

We stated taht we wanted it to stay in England but someone picked it up and put it in a cache in Wales, then they changed their mind and said it was in another cache, then they changed their minds back and logged it as in the first one. BUT ITS NOT THERE (according to others who have been there).

On a similar note our daughter has a TB that is trying to get to Giants Causeway in Ireland and it's been place in a puzzle cache and has been there for over 6 months - I think next time I release one I will state that it hasn't to be put into any puzzle caches as these don't seem to get found as much as traditional caches.

I know where your coming from Penfolio, my wife hates me picking up TB's for the responsibility aspect. The other week I thought I had lost the paperclip TB that's knocking around Yorkshire - it had travelled 18000km and I couldn't find it. After a sleepless night I found it in the drawer I normally keep them in, but hidden under something.

I also feel guilty when I pick one up, get home, log it and then find I can't help it on its mission - not that I should feel guilty if it hasn't got a note attached - but I do.

My First Ever Find

After my fruitless search of four sites a few days ago I was determined to find this one.  Found at 8pm tonight, with a group of "players" standing very very close by.

My first find, and also the honour of FTF.
