Yes, the new site is open for testing on the new server (notice the addition of "geo" into the site's address). I'm still tweaking things, and a few sections are unfinished, but hopefully you'll be able to get a feel for things. Please do leave your feedback in the forum. Here's a quick summary of the changes or additions - Easier to navigate menu system, making some of the features from the old site easier to find.
- Updated forum software
- Event Listings/calendar
- Interactive Googlemap, which everyone can add to
- Shortcuts to common searches at gc.com
- Improved Photo Gallery
- Shop and Donations links.
I've always run this site out of my own pocket, but this redesign has increased the costs, not just in server costs, but in software purchases too; so any small donations are welcome. Other than the visual look, the other biggest change has been in the user interaction components, borrowing a lot of features from the popular social bookmarking sites. - User profiles are being expanded
- Connections Feature - otherwise known as Friends
- Status Updates
- Profile Book (Wall), where people can posts comments
- Twitter Updates
- You own personal photo gallery
I'm hoping to implement a user activity feed feature (like Facebook), but I'm waiting to see if a better alternative that costs less than the only one on the market comes along.
